The State of Checksum Labs

As I shift my focus from Silverlight to "Metro" development there will inevitably be significant changes to Checksum Labs. I won't attempt to establish a specific timeline but these changes are roughly aligned with the release of Windows 8. The following is a breakdown of what'll happen over the next few months.

  • The site will get a visual overhaul to be more user-friendly across all types of devices (tablets, phones, desktops).
  • The Silverlight versions of the apps/games will be removed by the end of 2011. A few of them will be resurrected in Metro form in the Windows Store once Windows 8 is released.
  • Pre-Windows 8: Checksum Labs will focus primarily on blogging my adventures in Metro app development.
  • Post-Windows 8: Checksum Labs will serve as a companion to games I've submitted to the Windows Store.
  • The site will continue to pay homage to retro games, and I've got lots of ideas on how to pay them a proper tribute.

While I'm saddened by the reality of Silverlight being de-emphasized, I'm very excited about the possibilities moving forward with the Metro platform. Many thanks to everyone who took the time to check out my Silverlight projects. Hope to see you on the other side.

The short version...
The technologies featured on this site will soon change. Instead of Web Forms and Silverlight it'll be MVC and jQuery. WinRT/Metro will be the development platform, Windows Store will be the app delivery method.
