Summary:
Flight Oceanic 815 violently crashes onto an island in the Pacific, leaving a diverse group of survivors scrambling to restore order. Kate, Jack, and Charlie find the cockpit and encounter a monster.

Writing
For a first episode, Pilot is impressive. Of course it had to be, you need a good first episode and Pilot delivers. Characters are formed early on and in the first 5 minutes you can tell that Jack is the hero, he's the one risking his life to save everyone at the crash site. Hints are given for the future early on. Plus that first shot is so impressive.

Acting
Everyone is good I'll say. They're still trying to recover from the crash and the fact they almost died. Props to Matthew Fox for all his scenes. Especially where he meets Kate in the jungle with his wound. You can see the pain he had when injuring that girl. Plus Evangeline Lilly, at the end of the episode where she screams for Jack.

Visuals and Effects
The directing is very good, especially the first 10 minutes. So much is happening and it's all controlled very well. Jack, Kate and Charlie running through the jungle away from the Monster, ehh the overhead shot is nice but close up just looks silly.

Longevity
This is an episode that can be watched time and time again. There is some excellent foreshadowing with the rocks that Locke hold up to symbolize Good and Evil. The opening scenes are stuck in every viewers brain and for good reason, they're epic.

Intangibles
A great episode to start the show. We can see where these peoples life starts on the Island and when things begin to get crazy for them. Even after the end of the show this is still one of the best LOST episodes and maybe the best Pilot episode ever.
